This chapter presents the history of the production of antivenom serum in Colombia by public health entities. The records show that this process began in the 1930s in the so-called Samper Martinez National Institute of Hygiene, the foundation of today's National Institute of Health. An exhaustive review of official and unofficial documents and interviews with some of the main protagonists involved in the production of these biologics was carried out. As a result, a historical contextualization of the conception and scientific study of venoms and antivenoms is presented, as well as a timeline that explains the most significant events in this process, which were not carried out continuously, but had interruptions throughout different decades due to various circumstances.
